Located at Wellington street, Central, this one of the best restaurant in HK with its specialty in dim sum and cantonese cuisine. The disappointing part of my trip was i failed to enjoy authentic HK dim sum. Simply becos i've got no time! damn. But those dishes shown above are MUST try! Yung Kee serves dim sum from 2pm to 5pm (weird timing). I tried those dishes during noon 12pm plus. The roast goose i've tasted was FAT-bulous. That layer of FAT can be measured in millimetres beneath the crispy roasted skin, the meat is tender and delicious. Real good. Next is Yangchow fried rice, topped with chopped roasted meat bits and juicy shrimps hidden at the bottom. We also ordered stir fried kailan with garlic (not shown). Simple dishes, fantastic taste.Overall, this meal is one that i'll always remember.
Xulishan is easily available in most part of HK, especially near shopping malls. My guess is most Hongkongers love mango flavoured desserts, cos nearly half the menu is 'mango flavour/fruit/juice watsoever'. This is known as the 'Glutinous rice balls in mango juice with extra mango.' So mango-ish. But its so irresistable! Its triple bliss! Mango juice concentrate with mango cubes and a mango flavoured ice-cream.. Oooh! To tone down a little, glutinous rice balls are added to for the QQ effect. Next is the Fried radish cake, just like those in SG but has mushrooms added instead of dried shrimps.. a different sensation indeed.
Went there over for lunch while i land my feet on Ngong Ping village after a long cable car ride. We ordered Fried pan egg with chopped radish (aka choy po egg), boiled spinach and vegetarian crab claw. The boiled spinach doesnt taste bland at all, it tasted great! The most interesting one is the vegetarian crab claw, i was kinda curious on how they fit the 'claw' in. See that last pic? They cut sugarcane into a 'blade' shape and wrapped it with vegetarian crab meat. By doing so, you get to enjoy the sweetness of sugarcane juice seeped into the 'meat' for a better taste!
If you visit HK, you definitely must experience dining at their local hawker stalls. Along Temple St or other streets, you'll see plenty of food stalls selling a variety of unique looking seafood. This one i tried is a typical 'tze char' stall. I dint have much time to try out other stalls at the vicinity, but their 'Ma Po tofu' really tasted homecooked. I've never seen such weird looking prawns before, its known as the 'Mantis Shrimps'. It doesnt taste much like prawns infact, i cant describe it, its pretty crunchy infact.
Claims to be HK's best noodle shop with all the newspaper articles pasted on their glass door. Also located at Wellington St. Central, this tiny shop is packed with customers. So u gotta wait alittle while or if possible, bear with it and squeeze in to share table with others. No regrets! HK style wanton noodles do not come in 'dry' form, its only in soup based with wanton wrapped with juicy shrimps. The noodles are really springy not soggy at all! Other than the traditional wanton noodles, i ordered the fish meat noodle, its real fish meat (not flour) mixed with parsely bits and its tasted unique to me!
Similar to Xuliushan, Man Kee is another popular dessert shop in HK and serves mostly mango flavoured desserts. I tried this at IFC (International Finance Centre), one of HK's biggest shopping all, selling branded apparels (jus like our Ngee Ann city). Shown above is the mango juice dessert with beancurd and mine is the mixed fruit dessert right behind. I wont say that this is better than Xuliushan or vice versa, both i personally feel taste great in their own ways!
